If Courtney Love had a threesome with Sid Vicious and a trashy drag queen in the dirty backstreets of Birmingham, the sound of DRAG would be their accidental lovechild.
Addressing issues most other bands wouldn't touch - such as self-harm, mental health, and sexuality - without sacrifice or apology, DRAG bring a deceptively hard-hitting theatrical performance to the stage. Being fronted by females adds a misleading innocence to their song content, but careful listening reveals a darker undertone to many of DRAG’s performances. DRAG are regulars at Ladyfest and Riot Grrl band nights, providing a strong female stage presence without labeling themselves as an ‘all-girl’ band.
DRAG’s music was born out of a love of the 90’s riot grrrl era, and their DIY ethic has been one of the defining features of the band since the beginning – it is therefore a natural progression that their debut album, “Neurotica: A Compendium of Tales Regarding Body and Mind” was funded completely independently through Kickstarter. Like the title suggests, “Neurotica: A Compendium of Tales Regarding Body and Mind”, has some deep and dark stories to tell! From the tragically poignant ‘Dandy Boy’ to the explosively aggressive ‘Dead Zebra’, DRAG take the audience on a roller coaster of emotions…
Having worked closely with Manchester-based independent punk label, STP Records on live gigs, DRAG officially joined the label in 2015, and are due to release their second album with STP in late 2016.

“If being different is the key to success then surely DRAG are destined for greatness” – BBC Music
“Great songs - I love the band!”- Amanda Palmer, The Dresden Dolls
"DRAG are a band that go against everything that is currently out there" - Birmingham Mail
“DRAG are perhaps Birmingham’s best kept secret, and this EP should finally see them thrown into the limelight, bringing them the recognition they deserve. Forthright and to the point, it’s a benchmark for mixing sleaze, Queercore Punk, and tough as steel guitars. It’s clear DRAG are bursting with energy, ideas, and not afraid to confront controversial subjects.” – Zak Marsh, Ryan’s Gig Guide
“We love DRAG!” - G3 Magazine
“Not only are they a great punk band from the UK, but they and their fans are awesome people” – Gashouse Radio, Philadelphia
“One of the best sounding punk songs I’ve heard in years and it’s caked in sex, power chords and tattoos” – Nick Townsend, Ryan’s Gig Guide
“A sleazy punk band with grown-up songs, great image and a live show to match? Yeah, we couldn’t resist either, especially once we saw the ink!” – Skin Deep Magazine
“It’s a rare beast that has you utterly dumbfounded as to where the hell they got the inspiration to move up several divisions in one go from. This is exactly how I felt the first time I listened to DRAG’s new album. This is a pure statement of intent.
“They’re somewhere between L7 and Hole on most part which isn’t a bad thing and this four-piece do it well! Aside from great music it was good to see lyrics deal with issues such as self-harm, mental health and sexuality. Subjects that most bands steer clear of! For me every track grabbed my attention and coming from the West Midlands I was surprised I’d never come across DRAG before. A decent album well worth looking out for!"
“Neurotica is a real hard, brutal and raging album that totally rips open a hole in the boring music industry’s throat. A totally independent sophisticated release that isn’t afraid to push boundaries and filled with head butting anthems that are just impossible to ignore. An excellent album - buy it now from their website; they have worked so hard to create one of the freshest post-punk offerings in years. It’s a work of art that has to be shared”
Ryans Gig Guide
“All in all DRAG are a must listen band for people who like classic punk bands with a dash of 90’s riot girl. The band show some great promise and we’re willing to bet that in the next year of so they’ll be making it big…”
“The brutal, shocking language and subject matter are totally in your face, forcing you to confront it, and married to some very memorable and powerful tunes, including the Nirvana-esque ‘Hell7 (American Mary)’ and the Placebo-meets-death-metal of ‘Fine’, it makes for a riveting, harrowing and unforgettable listen. It makes all the cartoon horrors of the average metal band look very silly indeed. This isn’t music as escapism, it music as a furious wake-up call and fight back. This is not a comfortable or easy listen, despite the strength of the tunes, but it is a great album because it manages to say so much without sacrificing the music or the message.”
“It’d be wrong to say anyone can listen to the band; you kind of need to have an appreciation for the message they promote in their lyrics and stage performance to digest some of the lyrics. Having said that, the music that energises them are beautifully choreographed and in a way no other band does, actually do more than just TELL a story, you live it.”
